Deputy President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance party on Sunday, July 17, suffered a major setback after over 180 members of the political formation switched allegiance to Raila’s Orange Democratic Movement party.

The defections were overseen by ODM MP candidate James Kenani. Kenani received the team of defectors that included youth, women and MCA aspirants.

“I’m really excited about the fact that they have joined us ditching their own party that they have been supporting and by extension the parliamentary candidate,” Kenani said.

The parliamentary hopeful exuded confidence that the defections will bolster his bid and will also change political tides in several ward representative races.

Speaking during the event, the defectors revealed that their shift of allegiance was informed by Kenani’s exemplary record and plans for the down-trodden.

“He once served as CDF chairman and we saw the good things he did so we don’t see anything that will stop him from continuing with the same spirit,” a representative of the group said.
