Kisii municipality to demolish illegal buildings
Kisii municipality has given developers three weeks to provide approved development plans of their buildings or face demolition at their cost.
In a notice by Lands, Physical Planning and Urban Development County Executive Committee Member Dr Walter Okibo, the county will only spare buildings that are professionally constructed for public safety.
The notice was given to more than 300 building owners.
“ Kisii Municipality is among the top leading towns in the country that have experienced numerous collapse of buildings, leading to loss of lives and property due to non-compliance to approved plans,” Okibo said in a statement to the People Daily.
He said the county government has a duty to protect the lives and property of residents adding that developers must toe the line.
“ I urge the affected developers and members of the public to support the initiative aimed at restoring sanity in the development of the Municipality” Okibo said.
The CEC noted that buildings that have stalled for long will also not be allowed to stand in the county.
He assured developers who have complied with the requirements that they will not be affected.
He reminded them to get new approvals if they want to restructure the buildings to enhance the safety of users.
