Kisii MCAs cross to Orange party, to back Raila

Six Kisii MCAs have joined the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), saying that will be the party on which they will seek reelection next year.

The MCAs include Marani’s Dennis Ombachi and Samwel Ngisa (Bogetenga) both from the Peoples Democratic Party, Riana ward’s Vincent Moisab and Nyakoe’s John Amisi (both of Wiper party) and Independents Samwel Onuko Ismael Matundura.

The defections come amid a spirited effort by the Kisii ODM county leaders have said they have put measures in place to ensure party leader Raila Odinga wins the presidential seat in 2022.

Governor James Ongwae, Senator Prof Sam Ongeri and Woman Representative Janet Ong’era, county’s party chairman Kerosi Ondieki who received the defectors said Raila has sacrificed for the country’s democracy and urged Kenyans to give him the opportunity to lead the nation.

The leaders, who spoke at Nyamataro Shopping Centre after the governor commissioned the county party office, urged county and sub branch officials to recruit more members to propel Raila to State House.

“Other regions have produced presidents for almost 60 years. It is time for the Nyanza region to produce the next president in 2022,” Ongwae said, adding they will campaign for Raila.

The governor, who received the MCAs, urged the party officials to assist residents acquire national identity Cards and register as voters and party members to strengthen the party.

 Ong’era, who conveyed Raila’s well wishes, said the party was open to accommodating more members to join it ahead of next year’s General Election.
