Two Members of Parliament (MPs) from  Kisii county have apologized over the  chaos which rocked a fundraiser for PAG churches at Etono, Bomachoge Borabu constituency in Kisii county last week, terming it unfortunate.

Kitutu Chache North MP, Japhet Nyakundi of United Democratic Alliance (UDA)  party and his Bomachoge Borabu counterpart Obadiah Barongo of ODM  apologised to church leaders and assured them that  it would  never happen again.

“It was a bad show  and I apologize on behalf of the church and my people of Kitutu Chache North,” Nyakundi  said at Itierio grounds, Bonchari constituency, during  the funeral of Joyce Rabera Atandi, mother-in-law to county MP, Dorice Donya Aaburi.

Barongo also condemned the incident, terming it unfortunate, uncalled for and urged leaders to respect and support each other.

He blamed security officers for arresting his supporters after the fracas, stressing,  some politicians were using the officers to fight leaders and residents. “The government should not be used to fight us. They sued my supporters. It is a political witch hunt,” Barongo told mourners.

The lawmaker appealed to the government to protect the rights of all people regardless of their political party affiliations across the country to foster fairness and peace.

He challenged long serving politicians to mentor the first timers to serve residents well to qualify for re-election in the next General Election.

Chaos erupted at the church after Kitutu Chache South MP, Anthony Kibagendi accused Kenya Kwanza government of failing Kenyans, prompting youths to shout at him.

Police lobbed tear gas canisters, dispersed the youths, calm was restored and fund drive continued amid tight security.

At Itierio, Kibangendi told leaders shun humiliating elected leaders in their backyards, citing Barongo and Bonchari MP Charles Onchoke who bore the brunt.
