Kindiki says Kazi Majuu program is labour mobility, not migration programme
Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has joined Labour and Social Protection Cabinet Secretary (CS) Dr. Alfred Mutua in condemning Kenyans bashing the Kazi Majuu initiative.
Speaking while presiding the farewell of the first batch of 300 Kenyans leaving Kenya for Qatar on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, Kindiki hailed the program saying it is a labour mobility program aimed at bridging the unemployment gap.
He defended that the government initiative will help the youth of the country secure employment and earn a living and skills to reinvest back in the country.
The DP dismissed claims that the program is not meant to dispose the youth and rob them their citizenship.
“Kazi Majuu is not a migration programme. It is a labour mobility programme to assist workers in accessing jobs outside Kenya. They are still Kenyans, they remain patriotic, love their country and the opportunities provided by our friends are for them to go and work,” the DP said.
“We are not disposing of our people to other countries but securing them job opportunities abroad, to earn a decent living, utilise their skills and reinvest back home.”
Kindiki also expressed optimism and prayed that candidates selected will rightfully represent the country and obey the laws of Qatar.
“We pray that they will stay there, obey the laws of Qatar and be able to create friendships and networks in that country,” he said.
Earlier, CS Mutua also set the record straight on the program and condemned Kenyans criticizing the scheme.
According to Mutua, the program presents opportunity for Kenya to gain meaningful development through skills gathered from the developed countries.
“Wale naysayers wanapiga mdomo wakisema hii haiwezekani, nataka kuwaambia inawezekana and this will happen, wacha wale wanataka kuenda waende wewe funga mdomo , kaa hapo na pesa yako. Those complaining about people going overseas wako kazini na hawajui wewe uko nyumbani umesota. There is this talk about brain drain versus brain dead, when people leave the country to go overseas they are not going to stay there, they are actually gaining skills when you go to Germany or England for example to be a technician, you are gaining skills that we don’t have in our country, or even better yet you gain a better waay of doing things,” the CS said.
