Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has called on Boda Boda operators to uphold discipline on Kenyan roads following recent reports of unruly behaviour across the country.

Speaking during a forum that brought together more than 800 youth from Meru County on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, Kindiki noted that young people remain central to Kenya’s social and economic transformation. He said many of them seek employment and aspire to grow their own ventures, ranging from sports to small-scale businesses such as the motorcycle taxi industry.

”Every single one of them has an idea or two on the actions policy makers and leaders need to take to make Kenya greater than it is today,” Kindiki said.

Youth funding and job creation

Kindiki also revealed that the government is rolling out job and income creation programmes specifically designed to uplift young people. ”Other than requesting support to actualise their ventures, the youth are asking for an expedited job and income creation programme for various cadres of youth.”

He assured Boda Boda operators that the State will continue supporting them in their businesses to provide for their families. ”I ask those involved in the Boda Boda transport sector to run their businesses in an orderly and lawful manner, to avoid breaking traffic rules or harassing other road users. The Government, on its part, will protect them and all the young people engaged in lawful activities to ensure that they generate more income to support their families.” Kindiki added.

The DP’s remarks come in the wake of a series of violent incidents involving Boda Boda riders across the country, including mob justice, destruction of property, and clashes with law enforcement. In places like Vihiga, Thika, and Mavoko, operators have been linked to arson, looting, and election-related violence, incidents that have alarmed authorities and dented the sector’s image.

Meanwhile, speaking in Laikipia County on Monday, September 8, 2025, Kithure Kindiki also said the Government’s transformation of the agricultural sector through subsidised fertiliser and certified seeds is beneficial to women who form the majority of the farming folk of our Country.

He said the same can be said of the government support to rural enterprises through the construction of fresh produce markets and support to nano, micro, small and medium-scale enterprises, many of them being women-run.

”As we expand the economy to create jobs, we are empowering families and communities for the benefit of the men and women, who, as parents, want a Country that provides more opportunities to their children,” Kindiki noted.
