The National Government has created and gazetted new administrative units in 31 counties to enhance service delivery.

This comes at a time when the Central Governments are increasingly pursuing participatory mechanisms in a bid to improve governance and service delivery at the grassroots.

Yesterday, Interior Cabinet Secretary Prof Kithure Kindiki gazetted the new administrative units to enhance service delivery across the country in a special gazette notice dated February 14.

“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 14(1) of the National Government Coordination Act, 2013, the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration establishes the following Administrative Units as service delivery coordination units,” the notice read in part.

The units are run by National Administration officers who include the Regional Commissioner, County Commissioners.

Others are supervised by Sub County Commissioners, Assistant County Commissioners, Chiefs and their assistants.

Yesterday, Interior PS Raymond Omollo said the units will be used to promote services to wananchi. “They  can also be used to provide a direct platform where citizens articulate their preferences, disappointments and other proposals on improving service delivery,” he tweeted.

National Administration is one of the Departments in the Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government.
