Kindiki convenes meeting with leaders from Northern Kenya
By Kiprono Keileb, August 12, 2025The government has reiterated its commitment to fast-track development projects in Northern Kenya, focusing on infrastructure and social services aimed at fostering inclusivity and equitable growth.
On Tuesday, August 12, 2025, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki convened a high-level meeting with Members of Parliament from constituencies in Mandera, Wajir, and Garissa counties.
The session was held in Karen, Nairobi City County, as part of ongoing efforts to assess and accelerate the implementation of key government programs across the region.
In a statement released following the meeting, Kindiki emphasised the importance of monitoring progress to ensure that projects meant to uplift Northern Kenya are delivered on time and to the benefit of local communities.
“I met MPs representing constituencies in the Northern Kenya counties of Mandera, Wajir, and Garissa to track progress of government programmes and projects in their areas of representation,” said Kindiki.
Northern Kenya has historically lagged in critical infrastructure development, with many residents facing challenges related to poor roads, limited access to electricity, inadequate healthcare facilities, and a lack of quality education. The government’s agenda seeks to bridge these gaps by making targeted investments in roads, electricity, housing, markets, healthcare, and education.
Kindiki pointed out that these efforts align with the broader national goal of inclusivity and affirmative action, ensuring marginalised regions receive equitable development opportunities.

During the meeting, MPs pointed out key bottlenecks slowing progress, including delayed funding disbursements, logistical hurdles, and security challenges in certain areas. Kindiki assured the lawmakers that the government is keen on resolving these issues and will work closely with county officials to streamline project execution.
The discussion also touched on the need for enhanced collaboration between national and county governments to maximise resource utilisation and promote transparency.
As part of the engagement, Kindiki urged the MPs to maintain open channels with their constituents, ensuring that community voices are heard and integrated into the development agenda.
The meeting signals the government’s heightened focus on Northern Kenya, which is seen as vital for national cohesion and socio-economic growth. The emphasis on accelerating projects reflects a response to longstanding calls from residents and leaders in the region for meaningful development that translates into improved livelihoods.
With continued political will and active oversight from MPs, the hope is that Northern Kenya will witness tangible progress in infrastructure and service delivery, narrowing the development divide that has persisted for decades.
This gathering underlines the government’s strategy to ensure no region is left behind as Kenya pursues its development blueprint for 2030 and beyond.
