Kindiki calls out Gachagua over threats on fellow leaders
By Luke Oluoch, November 19, 2025Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has hit out at his predecessor, Rigathi Gachagua, for engaging in a campaign of intimidating fellow Mount Kenya leaders.
Speaking during a campaign tour in Mbeeere North on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, Kindiki slammed Gachagua for targeting local politicians in the larger Embu County for his divisive politics.
He criticised Gachagua for his derogatory remarks about Embu Governor Cecil Mbarire and slighting other leaders during his ongoing visit to the region.
Mt Kenya Kingpin
“I have seen some people abusing the governor. You cannot come here and start bragging and abusing other leaders, claiming to be their kingpin. Your leadership ends at your house,” he stated.
Kindiki refuted assertions that his criticism was politically motivated, confirming his cordial relations with rival leaders who had chosen to maintain dignity while campaigning.
Respect
“Let us not engage in fights and intimidate others. Elections are about soliciting for votes, and they will come and go. I have no problems with other politicians, whether they are on our side or in the opposition,” he added.
“We must respect each other. My issue is with that one person who has been threatening governors, MPs, and citizens. We have to call him to order,” he stated.

His remarks come after Gachagua accused a section of government-allied regional leaders of spearheading a campaign to silence the people of Mbeere North.
Speaking in a church service on Sunday, November 16, 2025, Gachagua accused area governor Mbarire of disrespect and imposing her own candidate on the people of Mbeere through Ruto’s influence.
Attacks on Mbarire
“Mbarire should respect the people and desist from issuing intimidations. For three years, she has never set foot in Mbeere, only to bring them a candidate now. You dare say that. We don’t want to disrespect these people. They might be of low income, but nonetheless they deserve their dignity,” he stated.
The accusations were also echoed by the opposition candidate Newton Karish, who accused the government of dishing out money to youths and causing havoc.
“Ironically, yesterday, the governor went out to write a statement that we intend to disrupt our own rally. How can we be the ones stopping our own rally?’ He posed.
