Highly rated defender Mike Kibwage yesterday said he was excited to join former league champions Sofapaka and vowed to help them win many trophies during his spell at the club.

Kibwage who completed a two-year deal from league side KCB also hopes of earning a national team call-up and scooping the Most Valuable Player award by the end of the seadon.

“Sofapaka is a big team that every player would dream to play for, so it was not hard for me to make the decision of joining the team.

I’m happy that I’m finally here after numerous negotiations and I can’t wait to start winning titles with my new family,” Kibwage said.

The player had been linked by a number of foreign teams including Tanzania giants Yanga, but settled for the ‘Batoto ba Mbungu’ who coincidentaly will be facing his immediate former club in their opening league fixture on November 20.

“I can’t wait for the opening match of the league. I know i will be facing my former employers, but now I’m a Sofapaka player and picking the three points is the most important thing for me,” he said.

Kibwage will have to battle for a starting place against Jacobs Faina, Willis Ouma and Stephen Otieno, a challenge he says he is ready for.

“I prefer playing in central defence, but I can play in all the positions in the defence line and even as a defensive midfielder.

I know how good the team defenders are and I like the fact that the competition is high.

This will help the team and I’m ready for the challenge,” he told People Sport as he signed his contract at the club’s offices in Nairobi yesterday.
