Kibra by-election: Jubilee hopeful protests Mariga’s nomination
A Jubilee Party aspirant for the Kibra parliamentary seat Maurice Kinyanjui has protested the nomination of footballer McDonald Mariga to fly the party’s flag in the November by-election.
Kinyanjui has now written a protest letter to the party’s secretary general Raphael Tuju and the National Elections Board (NEB) over what he termed “unfair and deceptive selection” of Mariga at the expense of other aspirants.
“The selection of one Macdonald Mariga to be the Jubilee candidate for the by-elections in Kibra constituency was not only unfair, deceptive and shrouded in secrecy but also contrary to provisions of Jubilee Party constitution,” he said in the letter.
Kinyanjui also raised questions about Mariga’s eligibility to vie for the position and cast aspersions at the viability of his candidature.
Sixteen applicants had expressed interest the seat on Jubilee ticket and the NEB chair Andrew Musangi announced Mariga as Jubilee’s pick on Monday.
The NEB met the aspirants and conducted interviews after which Mariga was declared the candidate.
