Kiambu Finance minister impeached two months into the office

Kiambu county’s minister for Finance Nancy Kirumba has been impeached for allegedly failing to offer leadership on prudent use of county resources, failure to process the supplementary budget in time and gross misconduct.

The County Executive Committee for Finance and Economic Planning was impeached by 56 of 87 MCAs who voted to send her packing on Wednesday, whom they described as arrogant and disrespectful.

Her fate now lies in the hands of a five-member ad hoc committee which shall look at the grounds for the impeachment and table a report in the county Assembly on whether or not she should be fired.

This came after Karuri MCA Peter Wainaina (pictured) and the Assembly chair in charge of Trade committee tabled a motion for the CEC’s removal from office.

Kirumba was sworn into office  barely two months ago after her nomination was earlier rejected by the Assembly’s Appointments committee, citing lack of experience given she had not worked in any public office before and was not a member of any accounting professional body.

Wainaina said she failed to offer leadership on the prudent use of county resources, more so on pending bills which should take precedence according to accounting procedures. She is also accused of failing to attend committee sittings without valid reason.
