Kiambu clergy advocate peace among politicians
Following months of leadership wrangles pitting Governor Kimani Wamatangi and a section of parliamentarians from Kiambu County, clerics and other leaders are now rooting for peace to facilitate social-economic development.
Rev. Rachael Muhoro of ACK Thika River in Thika noted that squabbling politicians were elevated to leadership positions to serve and not to fight and as such, they should all train their focus on service delivery to improve the livelihoods of the electorates.
The cleric noted that all elected leaders have a responsibility to serve their constituents and must therefore keenly and seriously undertake their mandates.
Speaking during the burial of Simon Gakinya Waweru, the former chairman of Kiganjo Ranching Company, the priest called on leaders and locals to uphold a peaceful coexistence to attract developments for posterity.
“We want to respectfully ask our leaders to serve us and do it peacefully. We elected you to represent us and all we require is development. When we hear you fight, this makes us get concerned as you should be utilizing all the energy and time to fast-track developments. We urge you to be peaceful and focus on improving the livelihoods of your constituents,” said Muhoro.
Her sentiments were echoed by a section of Kiambu MCAs and businessman David Kariuki Ngari who rooted for a truce between warring leaders to facilitate economic growth of the populous county.
“You are fighting because of a small market when our people are suffering because of serious issues such as the collapsed bridge at River Athi where the lives of people including children continue to be put in danger,” said Kariuki.
The leaders at the same time called on politicians to respect each other to facilitate and concentrate on delivering services to the people.
“We have nothing else to do as leaders but to deliver services to our people. Let us respect each other and push for what can benefit our people such as the one-man-one-vote one shilling as is being pushed by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua,” said Godfrey Mucheke, the Kiambu County Assembly majority leader.
