Kericho residents turn up to welcome governor Mutai after surviving ouster
By Luke Oluoch, August 30, 2025Embattled Kericho Governor Erick Mutai was on Saturday, August 30, 2025, treated to a heroic welcome as he made his way back to Kericho County following the abortive impeachment bid at the senate floor on Friday, August 25, 2025
In a video seen by People Daily Digital, the governor’s entourage was mobbed by an expectant crowd at Mau-Summit junction on his way to his cradle of Kericho County.
The governor, who addressed the masses at different stopovers, occasionally disembarked from his vehicle to join the jubilant crowds in taking selfies, barely a day after he triumphantly walked out of a heated senate debate with his job intact after surviving a second ouster motion.
Working relationship
Following the senate vindication, the governor was quick to issue a new basis of engagement regarding his working relationship with the county assembly of Kericho.
In a pointed statement, Mutai insisted that there must be clear boundaries and mutual respect among county leaders going forward.

“I’m willing to work with all of them, but they must begin to work with respect because justice must come with clean hands,” the governor asserted.
“But at the same time as we do so, we must now become very serious and stop these games, these monkey games that we are pushing up and down,” Mutai stated.
“As we work together with the leadership of Kericho County, we must draw boundaries, create respect within each other, and know that we have been given a mandate for five years to deliver for the people of Kericho,” he emphasised.
On a collaborative note, he announced plans to convene meetings involving all county leadership to foster cooperation and address ongoing tensions.
“We will be calling meetings to work together. All the leaders, members of parliament, senators and everybody will be doing that kind of a meeting,” he revealed.
Impeachment attempt
In the latest bid to oust him on Friday, August 29, 2025, the Senate, by majority vote, concluded that the County Assembly did not meet the necessary threshold for removal.
In the voting, 26 senators affirmed that the MCAs failed to achieve the required two-thirds majority for impeachment.
