Kenya will on Monday October 4 handover the chairmanship of United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) to incoming president once elected in Barbados.

President Uhuru Kenyatta will be expected to address the conference virtually today.

Cabinet Secretary of Industrialization, Trade and Enterprise Development Betty Maina will represent the President in an handover ceremony to be held in Barbados.

“Before the session starts there will be a “ceremony/protocol” held in Barbados to welcome local dignitaries and the Kenyan delegation,” the event organizers said in a statement.

The fifteenth session of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, for which the theme is “From Inequality and Vulnerability to Prosperity for All”, is being hosted by the Government of Barbados virtually from 3 to 7 October, 2021.

In 2016, the then Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs and International Trade Amina Mohamed was elected to chair UNCTAD 14.
