Kenya Railways Corporation has issued a strong public warning over a rising wave of fraudulent job advertisements being circulated by scammers impersonating the state agency.

In a public notice released on April 19, 2026, the corporation cautioned job seekers to remain vigilant after reports emerged of individuals and groups advertising fake vacancies and demanding money from unsuspecting applicants.

Fake job ads circulating online

According to the notice, fraudsters are actively using the Kenya Railways name to post non-existent job vacancies across various platforms, misleading members of the public seeking employment opportunities.

The corporation emphasised that all official recruitment information is published only on the official website www.krc.co.ke, advertised in national newspapers, and managed strictly through the official online job application portal.

“Kenya Railways wishes to alert the public of fraudsters impersonating the Corporation by advertising fake job vacancies and soliciting money from unsuspecting job seekers,” the notice reads in part.

“BE ADVISED: All vacancies are published ONLY on the official website (www.krc.co.ke) and in national daily newspapers. Applications are submitted strictly through the official Job Link on the website.”

Recruitment fees

Kenya Railways further clarified that it does not charge any fees at any stage of the recruitment process, including job applications, shortlisting, interviews, and appointments.

The agency warned that anyone requesting payment in exchange for jobs or recruitment assistance is engaging in fraudulent activity.

“Kenya Railways does NOT charge any fee at any stage of the recruitment process including application, shortlisting, interviews, or appointment. Any person or entity demanding payment in the name of Kenya Railways is fraudulent,” Kenya Railways stated.

The corporation has urged Kenyans, especially job seekers, to exercise caution and verify all job advertisements through official channels before taking any action.

Members of the public have been advised to ignore suspicious job adverts, avoid making any payments related to recruitment, and confirm opportunities through official Kenya Railways communication platforms.

The warning comes amid increasing reports of job-related fraud targeting unemployed Kenyans, where scammers exploit the high demand for employment opportunities.

Authorities have previously cautioned that such schemes often involve fake recruitment notices, requests for “processing fees”, and impersonation of government institutions.
