Kenya Power announces completion of prepaid token system upgrade

The Kenya Power Company on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, announced the completion of the prepaid token upgrade system.

The primary electricity provider in Kenya had earlier announced plans for the upgrade to its prepaid token system would commence on Sunday, June 2, 2024, at 10.00 pm.

“We are pleased to inform our customers that the scheduled upgrade of our prepaid token vending system was successfully completed yesterday at 10 pm,” Kenya Power said.

Assuring its customers of the company’s commitment to improving its services, Kenya Power said that all the prepaid customers can now buy their electricity tokens via all available payment channels in the country through their official Paybill number 888880.

“Our prepaid customers can now buy their electricity tokens via all payment channels including M-PESA Paybill number 888880, Airtel Money, and banking channels,” Kenya Power said.

“We appreciate our customers for their patience and understanding during this process, and we assure them that we are committed to continuously improving our services to better meet their needs.”

System Upgrade

In a statement on May 27, 2024, Kenya Power informed its customers about the interruption of the prepaid system to facilitate an upgrade slated from 10.00 pm, Sunday, June 2 to 10.00 pm, Monday, June 3, 2024.

“We wish to inform our customers that the prepaid token vending system will be unavailable from 10:00 PM, Sunday, 2nd June to 10:00 PM, Monday, 3rd June to enable us to upgrade our systems for improved service delivery,” Kenya Power said.

The utility company added that prepaid customers will not be able to buy electricity tokens from all vending points including Kenya Power offices.

 “During this period, customers will not be able to buy electricity tokens from all vending points including Kenya Power offices, M-PESA Paybill number 888880, Airtel Money, and banking channels kindly purchase your tokens prior to staying connected,” Kenya Power said.

“We therefore wish to advise our pre-paid customers to buy enough tokens before then to avoid any inconvenience.”
