Kenya Power lists parts of 3 counties to be affected by blackout on Sunday
By Kenneth Mwenda, October 4, 2025Kenya Power has released a notice informing customers in three counties that they will face power interruptions on Sunday, 5th October 2025. The blackout is part of planned maintenance work aimed at improving electricity supply in the affected regions.
The company said the exercise will affect areas in the Central Rift, Kiambu, and Garissa. The maintenance will run for several hours, and residents and businesses have been asked to prepare in advance.
Central Rift region
In the Central Rift, the scheduled outage will affect Mai Mahiu and its surroundings. Power will be cut off from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Areas expected to be without electricity include River Springs Hotel, Mayers, Namja, China Wu-Yi, Gold Stone Quarry, Manyata Quarry, Yellow Stones Quarry, Kingston Quarry, Ewaso Kedong Market, Najire Girls, Earth Station, and nearby customers.
Kiambu County
In Kiambu, two areas will be affected. The first is part of Limuru Town and the Bata Factory. The blackout will run from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Customers in Githongoti, Kwambira, Manguo, Ngaraiga, Rufus, Ngaraiga Girls, Murengeti, Nyambare, Jua Kali, Kirathimo, and Karanjee will also be affected.
The second outage in Kiambu will hit Witetihie, Ndarugu, and Kiahuria. Compurea High, Thwasco Ngoingwa, parts of Ngoingwa, Witetihie, Thiwasco, Alibizia, and surrounding areas will be without power during the same hours.
Garissa County
In Garissa, the entire town will face a full-day blackout. The maintenance will run from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Institutions and businesses set to be affected include the County Commissioner’s Office, the Governor’s offices, Garissa University, Modika Barracks, Garissa Solar Plant, Madogo, KBC, GC-TV, Bula Iftin, Bula Mzuri, Kunaso, County High, Mbambala, Sankuri, and neighbouring areas.
The company urged residents to make arrangements since the blackout will affect key government offices, schools, and commercial centres. Kenya Power explained that planned maintenance is vital to keep the grid stable and prevent unplanned blackouts in the future.
