Ongoing power maintenance
This outage is part of a series of planned maintenance activities in Nairobi and other counties over the past week. On Monday, 10 November, Kenya Power switched off power in parts of Mirema and surrounding areas from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Areas affected then included Lumumba Drive, Mirema Road, Paris Lounge, PAC University, Mirema Primary School and neighbouring customers.
On Tuesday, 11 November, the company also carried out maintenance in parts of Langata and Kirinyaga County. In Nairobi, Southlands Estate, Langata Hosp, Akiba Estate, Civil Servants Langata, Rubia Estate, Uhuru Gardens and surrounding areas experienced blackouts. In Kirinyaga, power was interrupted in Gitwe Primary School, Gitwe Kiarura, Kona Mbaya and nearby customers.
Kenya Power said the ongoing maintenance is essential to improve the reliability of electricity supply, reduce unplanned interruptions and upgrade the network infrastructure. The company urged residents to plan ahead and take precautions during the outages.
The ongoing maintenance comes at a time when the Kenya Meteorological Department has warned that heavy rains will persist across several parts of the country through November. The department cautioned that the rains could cause floods and landslides in already saturated areas, urging residents to remain vigilant.
