Kenya Power lists areas to experience outages on Monday, December 22
By Faith Lagat, December 21, 2025Kenya Power has announced planned power interruptions scheduled for Monday, December 22, 2025, affecting parts of Nairobi and Nyeri counties.
The outages, set to last from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., are part of routine network maintenance aimed at improving electricity reliability and upgrading infrastructure.
In a post on X dated December 21, 2025, the official Kenya Power account @KenyaPower_Care stated, “Good evening, the following areas will be on a planned power maintenance tomorrow (22.12.2025).”
Specific areas in Nairobi County include Nasra Estate, Bee Centre, Sosion Estate, and part of Kayole Spine Road. Critical facilities like Mama Lucy Hospital and Soweto Health Centre, as well as commercial centers such as Naivas Supermarket, Bee Centre, Shell Petrol Station, Shujaa Mall, and surrounding customers, will be affected.
Residents and businesses in these densely populated neighborhoods are advised to prepare for an eight-hour blackout.

Impact on Nyeri County
Meanwhile, parts of Nyeri County in the Mt. Kenya Region will also experience outages.
The affected areas include Kiandere, Gitero, and Karia, covering Karia, parts of Kiamwathi, Kwa Tailor, Gatini, Gitero Market, Kwa Nderi, Gitero Polytechnic, Joma, Muthuaini Secondary School, Muthuaini Market, Muthuaini Coffee Factory, Kiamaguru, Gathima, Tetu TVC, Kagwathi Market, and adjacent customers.
“Karia, parts of Kiamwathi, Kwa Tailor, Gatini, Gitero Mkt, Kwa Nderi, Gitero Polytechnic, Joma, Muthuaini Sec Sch, Muthuaini Mkt, Muthuaini C/Factory, Kiamaguru, Gathima, Tetu TVC, Kagwathi Mkt & adjacent customers,” read the statement in part.
Maintenance importance
Kenya Power emphasised that planned outages are essential for long-term service improvement. “It is necessary to interrupt supply periodically to facilitate maintenance and upgrade of power lines to the network,” a standard company statement reads.
The utility urged affected customers to plan, apologising in advance for any inconvenience. “We regret the inconvenience this may cause and appeal to those affected to bear with us as we carry out the essential works,” the notice added.
Residents are encouraged to charge devices, stock up on essentials, and use alternative power sources where possible.
The scheduled interruption comes amid ongoing efforts to enhance grid stability and expand access, particularly as electricity demand peaks during the festive season.
