Kenya Power lists areas to experience blackout on Sunday, March 8
By Kenneth Mwenda, March 7, 2026Kenya Power has warned residents and businesses in several parts of the country that they will experience planned power interruptions on Sunday, March 8, 2026.
The company said the outages are part of network maintenance to improve electricity reliability and reduce future faults.
In a message posted on X under the handle, the utility firm said:
“Good Evening. The listed areas will be affected by planned power interruptions tomorrow (08th March 2026). The interruption is part of network maintenance.”
The post urged customers to check the latest schedule through the link provided or under the most recent date on its platform. The scheduled outages are expected to last for most of the day, with most areas facing disruptions from early morning until late afternoon.
Nairobi region
In Nairobi, several streets and commercial locations will lose power between 9.00 am and 5.00 pm. Affected zones include Road B and part of Enterprise Road.
Falcon Road, Enterprise Road and part of Affordable Housing will be affected. Industries including Sonado Ltd, Ngombe Industry and Zebra Seramic Ltd are among the customers expected to experience outages.
A Kenya Power official said the planned outage was necessary to allow technicians to carry out essential works on the distribution network.

The warnings come after heavy rains on Friday, March 6, 2026, flooded the South C Substation, leaving several neighbourhoods across the city without electricity. The company confirmed that floodwater entered the substation after part of the boundary wall collapsed, damaging equipment and interrupting supply.
Areas affected by the flooding included South B, South C, Nairobi West, Madaraka Estate, Strathmore, Dam Estate, Lang’ata, Wilson Airport, Carnivore, Kenyatta Market, Ngumo Estate, Industrial Area and Uhuru Gardens.
“Our engineers are already on site, carefully assessing the damage to electrical equipment and working tirelessly to carry out the necessary tests and repairs,” Kenya Power said. The utility added that, where possible, some customers were switched to adjacent substations to ease the impact.
Western region
Parts of Vihiga County will also feel the impact. The outage will hit Gambogi Market, Tigoi Girls, Masana, Kinu, Jebrok, Kapkererer, Kapchengum and Shoka Maize Millers, among others. Customers in Kitigu Resources, Inyanza, Chanduguny, Nyang’ori Complex, Soi and Kitagwa will also face the disruption.
In Kakamega County, Kakamega CBD and the surrounding areas will be without power during the same hours. Key facilities such as KRA offices, Kakamega Police Station, Golf Hotel and Tuskys Supermarket are listed.
Further west in Kisumu County, power will be off for communities around RIAT Institute and the Riat Village Market.
Mt Kenya region
In the Mt. Kenya region, parts of Nanyuki Town and Rwai will see outages from 8.00 am to 5.00 pm. This includes homes and institutions such as Huruma Hospital, Nanyuki Mall, Cedar Mall, Vivo Nanyuki and the Referral Hospital.
“Customers in these areas should make arrangements, as the power will be off for most of the day,” officials said.
Machakos and North Rift
In Machakos County, the Sabaki area will face interruptions affecting both residential and commercial customers. Roads such as Old Mombasa Road and Athi 55 will be impacted, along with businesses like Great Wall, Kenchic and Coloho Mall.
In the North Rift Region, Uasin Gishu County, key businesses on the list include Pyramid Packaging, Rivatex Factory and Annex Centre, along with Toyota Kenya, 64 Resort, Upper Elgon View and adjacent customers.
