Kenya Power lists areas to experience blackout on Sunday, April 19
By Kenneth Mwenda, April 18, 2026Kenya Power has announced planned power maintenance that will lead to blackouts across parts of Nairobi, Kisumu and Garissa on Sunday, April 19, 2026.
“Good evening, please receive the list of areas scheduled for planned power maintenance tomorrow (Sunday, 19.04.2026),” the utility firm said in a notice shared on its official X account.
The maintenance exercise will run at different times depending on the region, with most areas expected to go without electricity for up to nine hours.
In Nairobi, the planned outage will affect parts of Likoni Road, Mombasa Road and Road C from 8.00 am to 5.00 pm. Affected customers include Ideal Paints, Capitol Laundry, Jaykish Traders, C & P Shoes, Park View Apartments, East Africa Spectre, Panari Hotel, DTB Mombasa Road, Airtel HQ, Equity Bank Mombasa Road, Express Kenya, Diamond Estate, Balozi Estate and Park Side Towers, among others.
In other parts of the capital, including areas around Buruburu and Makadara in Nairobi, electricity will be switched off from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm. The outage will affect Mamboleo Buruburu Phase 4 and 5, Jogoo Road Police Station, The Point Mall, Uhuru Market, Hamza, and Makadara Law Courts.

Other parts
In Garissa County, the blackout will run from 8.00 am to 5.00 pm. It will affect key facilities including Garissa Referral Hospital, Garissa County Assembly, Garissa University, Modika Barracks, the water treatment plant, Balambala, Bulla Iftin and the Governor’s Office and residence. Kenya Power said the outage will cover “whole of Garissa”.
In Kisumu County, the maintenance will affect Mamboleo National House, Jomo Kenyatta International Sports Ground, Kenya Re Estate, Agricultural Showground Mamboleo, Ezra Gumbe Primary School and surrounding areas from 8.00 am to 5.00 pm.
Kenya Power said the exercise is part of routine maintenance to improve service delivery. The company advised customers in the affected areas to plan accordingly.
It added that customers can access services through its dial code 977#, website and customer care channels during the maintenance period.
The utility firm regularly carries out planned outages to repair lines, upgrade transformers and connect new customers across the country.
