Kenya Power lists areas to experience blackout on Monday, April 27
By Kenneth Mwenda, April 26, 2026Kenya Power has announced planned electricity interruptions on Monday, April 27, 2026, affecting parts of Nairobi, Bomet and Nandi counties as it carries out routine maintenance works.
In a notice shared on its official social media page, the utility firm said, “Good Evening. The listed areas will be affected by planned power interruptions tomorrow (27th April 2026). ^DM.”
The outage in Nairobi will mainly affect Nairobi West and surrounding estates. Kenya Power said the interruption will run from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm. Residents and businesses in Msufu Road, Sumba Road, Naimei Road, ICC Church area, Mombasa Road (PAA Crescent), Kifaru Crescent, Swara Crescent and Gandhi Avenue will be affected.
Other areas include Kisauni Road, Muthaiti Avenue, Muhoho Avenue, Nairobi West Hospital, Hotel Rio, Kodi Road, Summerdale Hotel, ABSA Bank Nairobi West, Geta Road, Nyayo Stadium area, Masaba Road, Ole Sankale Road and Madaraka Estate. Siwaka Estate, Strathmore University, Langata Technical College, Madaraka Primary School and nearby customers will also experience the blackout.
In Bomet County, parts of Sotik will be without electricity from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm. Kenya Power listed Gorgor, Gelegele, Abosi, Kapchumbe, Njiship Market and Shartuka Market as the affected areas.
In Nandi County, the interruption will affect Kaimosi and Chepkumia areas from 10.00 am to 5.00 pm. The utility said Kiborgok, Yala, Chepsonoi, Kaimosi Tea Factory, Kaimosi Bible College, Chepkumia Tea Factory, Sirwo and Tindinyo will be affected.
Kenya Power said the maintenance is part of efforts to improve service reliability and strengthen the distribution network. The company regularly carries out such works to reduce unplanned outages and upgrade ageing infrastructure.

Rising power cost burden
The planned blackout comes at a time when electricity consumers are also facing higher bills following new tariff adjustments announced by the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA).
EPRA said the changes, published in Gazette Notices Nos 6002 and 6003, will apply to all meter readings for April 2026. The regulator introduced additional charges, including fuel cost, foreign exchange adjustment and a water-related levy.
EPRA Acting Director-General Joseph Oketch said the changes reflect real generation costs.
“These adjustments are necessary to align electricity prices with the actual cost of generation and foreign exchange movements,” he said.
The fuel cost charge remains the highest component, driven by the use of diesel and thermal plants when cheaper sources are not sufficient.
Kenya Power said customers in areas dependent on grid stability upgrades will continue to experience occasional planned outages as the company balances maintenance needs with rising demand. It urged affected customers to make necessary arrangements during the outage period.
