Kenya Power employee dies following attack in Isiolo
Kenya Power has officially announced the tragic death of one of its staff members who was attacked while performing his duties on Thursday, April 9, 2026.
According to the notice by Kenya Power on Friday, April 10, 2026, the incident occurred in the Checheles area near Isiolo Town.
Kenya Power noted that Makembo was targeted at a premises where there was suspected fraudulent electricity consumption.

“Kenya Power deeply regrets to announce the passing of one of our staff members, Mr. Shadrack Makembo, who was attacked on Thursday while on duty at the Checheles area near Isiolo Town,” Kenya Power stated.
Assault
Despite these efforts, Kenya Power confirmed that he succumbed to his injuries on Thursday evening.
“Despite receiving emergency treatment at the incident area and later being airlifted to Nairobi for specialised treatment, Mr. Makembo sadly succumbed to his injuries last evening,” Kenya Power stated.
Search for person of interest
Preliminary investigations into the attack have identified one person of interest, Sheikh Mayo, who currently remains at large.
According to Kenya Power, the findings regarding this unfortunate incident suggest that there was suspected fraudulent electricity consumption at the premises where the incident occurred.

Kenya Power stated they are working closely with investigating authorities to ensure the suspect is apprehended and brought to justice.
“We strongly condemn this criminal act and are working closely with the investigating authorities to ensure that the suspect, Sheikh Mayo, who remains at large, is apprehended and brought to justice,” Kenya Power noted.
Airlifting the employee
Kenya Power, in a press release on Thursday, April 9, 2026, condemned the attack on a field officer who was attacked while on duty in Isiolo County.
The utility company confirmed that the incident occurred on Thursday, April 9, 2026.

According to Kenya Power, the officer, who is a meter reader, sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to Nairobi this afternoon for specialised treatment.
“Kenya Power strongly condemns the attack on one of our field officers, a meter reader, which occurred earlier today in Isiolo while he was on duty. The employee sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to Nairobi this afternoon for specialised treatment,” KPLC said.
