Kenya Power announces planned power interruptions across multiple regions

Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) has announced scheduled power interruptions in several counties on Friday, September 12, 2025.

The utility firm says the planned outages are part of a nationwide maintenance exercise aimed at strengthening the electricity supply and improving network reliability.

Areas to be affected

According to the Kenya Power notice released on Thursday, September 11, 2025, the interruptions will affect parts of West Pokot, Kakamega, Nyeri, and Kiambu counties. The outages will last between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., depending on the location.

In West Pokot, areas set to be affected include Orwa, Lami Nyeusi, Kainuk, Sarmach, and Seker. Residents in Kakamega will experience interruptions in Makunga and Shikoti, with specific localities such as Emukangu, Ebureke, Shinoyi Market, Khungoysoi, Shikoti, Shrakalu, Emachembe, Ebushibo, Shiango, and Esiumeya listed in the schedule.

In the Mt. Kenya region, Nyeri County will see power cuts in Kigogoini and Wandumbi, covering institutions and neighbourhoods such as Kiriti Secondary, Giakamaki TBC, Gachuiro, JW Gitahi, Gakere Secondary, and Kamahuru TBC.

The power outage in Kiambu County will affect the residents of Ngoingwa, with areas including Kilimambogo Millers, Family Gardens, Mpesa Foundation, Karibaribi, Makwa Boys, Makwa Dispensary, Magumu, and Gakui Shopping Centre expected to experience interruptions.

Kenya Power noted that the interruptions are necessary to facilitate system upgrades and ensure long-term stability of the electricity supply.
