Kenya has launched its first operational earth observation satellite successfully in to space after three failed attempts at Vandenburg Air Force Base in the US.

The launch happened at around 9:44 am.

Satellite Taifa-1 was supposed take off from California USA on Friday, April 14, 2023, but exploration technology company Space X cancelled the exercise nearly 28 seconds into flight.

“We’re sorry, it’s a very delicate process and a lot of money has been invested in different pilots so it’s not good to risk it,” the company said after the failed attempt on Friday.

Taifa-1’s payload is an optical camera capable of imaging in five multispectral bands with a ground sampling distance (GSD) of 32 metres and a panchromatic band with a GSD of 16 metres.
