Kenya Kwanza leadership in Mombasa yesterday threatened to hold parallel demonstrations to counter the ones planned by the Azimio La Umoja coalition.

Led by East Africa Legislative Assembly (EALA) MP Hassan Omar (pictured) , the local Kenya Kwanza leadership said they will not sit pretty and watch Azimio “goons” paralyse business activities and the general economy of Mombasa.

“We can’t allow you to cause economic turmoil in Mombasa, I want to tell our Woman Representative (Mohamed Zamzam) and senator (Mohamed Faki), that enough is enough, let them dare go ahead (with the demos), I have told them that we will be behind the police to see who dares,” Omar said.

Omar accused the Mombasa ODM leadership of taking advantage of the poor to pursue their own selfish political ambitions.

“We will not accept any protests, we have reports that they are planning demos in Bangladesh, Maweni, Kisauni and Tudor Mwisho and Majengo. They want to use the poor to benefit themselves, we will be on the streets ourselves to protect our property,” claimed Omar.

Omar spoke at a meeting with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) leaders at Kizingo in Mombasa, saying they will cooperate with the security apparatus to ensure the protests do not take off.

Omar who was accompanied by the Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) nominee Charles Kanyi asked residents to go ahead with their businesses as usual since they will cooperate with authorities and security apparatus to tame goons planning to disrupt peace in Mombasa.

“We have talked to regional commissioner Rhoda Onyancha to ensure peace reigns at the Coast, we will fight politically on behalf of our people and our government,” said Omar.
Omar charged that Coast residents were being duped to join the protests which would only destroy the region’s economy as the gateway to EAST Africa,” he stated.
