The Kenya Institute of Management (KIM) has issued an update to its student body following a recent public notice from the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA) regarding the institution’s regulatory status.

In a statement on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, KIM said students remain a key priority as discussions with regulators continue, reassuring learners and alumni amid uncertainty over the matter.

“We want to assure you that your academic journey and your future are our top priorities. While we navigate these regulatory discussions, we are committed to providing you with clear and honest information,” KIM said in a statement.

This comes following the revocation by the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA) of its accreditation and ordering the immediate closure of all campuses.

In a public notice on Monday, April 20, 2026, TVETA announced that KIM had been offering academic and professional programmes without proper authorisation.

According to KIM Executive Director/CEO Muriithi Ndegwa, the institute’s management is currently in active communication with both the Ministry of Education and TVETA to resolve the regulatory matters.

The institute stressed its commitment to ensuring that every student who has attended since 2018 receives the professional recognition they deserve.

The institution also said its offices remain open to continue offering support and guidance to affected students.

“Our management is in active communication with the Ministry of Education and TVETA to resolve the administrative accreditation concerns raised. KIM further announced that it will hold a meeting later to provide additional details, urging students to keep checking its official communication channels for updates.

TVETA: KIM has no legal mandate

As a result, the authority declared that KIM no longer has the legal mandate to award any qualifications.

Certificates, diplomas, and other academic credentials issued by the institution from 2018 onwards will not be recognised for employment, further education, or professional advancement.

“The public is hereby notified that KIM does not have the legal mandate to award qualifications. Consequently, any certificates, diplomas, or other qualifications obtained from the institution beyond 2018 are not recognised for purposes of employment, further education, or professional advancement,” TVETA said.

“Pursuant to Sections 36 and 37 of the TVET Act, the accreditation earlier issued to KIM and all its campuses in the Republic of Kenya has been revoked, and all KIM campus closed with immediate effect.”
