KeNHA issues update over blocked Iten-Kabarnet road
By Mark Mwithaga, April 29, 2026The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has issued an update on the situation of the Iten-Kabarnet road.
In a statement on Wednesday, April 29 2026, the roads authority informed the public that the flow of traffic had been restored.
“The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) wishes to notify motorists and the public that traffic flow along the Iten-Kabarent Road near Kolol has been restored,” KeNHA stated.
This comes hours after an earlier notice informing motorists that the busy road was blocked as a result of a landslide.

Exercise caution
KENHA further urged motorists to exercise caution while using the road.
“Motorists are advised to continue exercising caution and to strictly adhere to instructions issued by police officers and traffic marshals on site to ensure their safety as conditions stabilize. KeNHA appreciates the cooperation, patience and understanding demonstrated by motorists during this period,” KeNHA added.
Earlier information indicated that the landslide was a result of heavy rains that pounded the area on Tuesday, April 28, 2026.

The disaster resulted in the road being impassable and disrupted traffic along the important route.
KeNHA noted that response teams had been deployed to rectify the unfortunate situation.
Alternative route
As part of the extra measures, road users were advised to use an alternative route.
“Restoration efforts are currently underway, and the Authority is working to reinstate normal traffic flow as soon as possible. Motorists who have not yet commenced their journeys are advised to consider using Iten – Eldoret – Eldama Ravine – Kabarnet as an alternative route,” KeNHA stated on Tuesday.
