In a public notice posted on October 11, 2025, the authority stated that the B129 road will be closed from Thursday, October 16, to Thursday, November 6, 2025. The project is part of ongoing efforts to improve road infrastructure in the region.

“The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) wishes to notify the public that the Njoro-Mau Summit (B129) Road will be closed from Thursday, 16th October to Thursday, 6th November 2025, to allow for pavement reconstruction works,” read the notice in part.

Closure details and diversion routes

The closure affects a section approximately 1 km past the Keringet Factory and 2 km before Molo Town, a busy corridor linking Njoro, Molo, and Mau Summit. KeNHA has identified a diversion route for motorists during the closure period. However, due to a sharp restricted curve along the detour, lorries and long trucks will not be permitted to use the route.

“The closure point is about 1 km past the Keringet Factory and 2 km before Molo Town. A diversion has been identified for use during this period. However, due to a sharp restricted curve, lorries and long trucks will not be allowed to use it. Motorists operating such vehicles are advised to use alternative routes.”

Motorists operating heavy vehicles are advised to use the Nakuru-Mau Summit (A8) Road via Kibunja Junction as an alternative. KeNHA has provided a route map to guide drivers and ensure smooth traffic flow. “KeNHA appeals to all road users to follow the proposed traffic management plan for their safety,” the notice stated, signed by Eng. Luka Kimeli, Acting Director General. Traffic marshals will be deployed along the affected stretch to assist motorists and ensure compliance with the diversion plan.

“In particular, those heading to Molo and Mau Summit are advised to use the Nakuru-Mau Summit (A8) Road via Kibunja Junction, as indicated in the attached route map.”

Funding boosts road projects nationwide

The temporary closure is part of broader government initiatives to revitalise road projects across the country. Construction on several major highways and estate roads had stalled due to unpaid contractor bills. The government recently injected approximately Ksh175 billion into the road sector through a securitisation process, enabling contractors to resume works and accelerate completion timelines.

The Njoro-Mau Summit Road works aim to improve road safety and travel efficiency for commuters and transporters.

KeNHA has coordinated measures to minimize disruptions during the 22-day closure, emphasising the importance of adhering to traffic guidance. Road users are urged to plan travel accordingly and follow all instructions from authorities to ensure smooth transit during the reconstruction period.
