Female candidates in this year’s Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exam have excelled in English, Kiswahili and Sign Language compared to their male counterparts who dominated in Maths, Science and Social Studies.

While releasing the results, Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha said the performance in languages, Social Studies, and Religious Studies had improved while performance in Maths and Science dropped compared to last year.

Andy Munyiri emerged as the top candidate with 440 marks out of the possible 500.

Andy is followed by three candidates; June Koech, Michael Ndung’u and Flavian Onyango who all scored 439 marks.

The results were released on Monday at the Kenya National Examinations Council offices on Denis Pritt Road, Nairobi.

Magoha said there was no paper that leaked.

A total of 1,083,456 candidates sat for the exam which were administered by 181,016 professionals.

Candidates who scored between 300 and 400 marks this year dropped to 9, 770 from 11,559 in 2018.
