Azimio la Umoja – One Kenya coalition running mate Martha Karua took a swipe at Deputy President William Ruto even after the DP broke protocol at the National Prayer Breakfast and invited her to address those in attendance.

Ruto cut short his address and asked Karua to speak on behalf of the Azimio la Umoja – One Kenya coalition presidential candidate Raila Odinga who was not present.

“Before I conclude my remarks, in the absence of my brother Raila Odinga, who is my main competitor in this election, I’m going to ask my sister Martha Karua… Allow me to break protocol so that she can come and make some few remarks,” Ruto said.

Taking to the podium, Karua indirectly asked Ruto to match his action with his words. The DP started his speech by emphasizing the importance of prayers.

“The bible tells us that a house that prays together stays together, when we come to pray together as a nation it reminds us that we are one people, we are one nation under God despite whatever different opinions we might hold,” Ruto said.

When she took to the podium, Karua indirectly asked Ruto to match his prayers with action insisting that prayers without action are dead.

“Prayer without action is not real. So how I pray that our prayers are matched by our actions. If we do that, we definitely will have peaceful elections, a peaceful transition, and a nation that stands together. God bless Kenya. God bless us all,” Karua said.

Karua also called on the leaders present to put into consideration all the messages of peace they have talked about at the meeting.

The Azimio la Umoja presidential running mate added that she would like to see Kenya have a peaceful election process.

Ruto apologised for breaking protocol after Karua concluded her remarks. He said that he was sorry for ambushing her but nonetheless noted that she presented herself well.

“Thank you Martha even if I ambushed you. You have given a good account of yourself, and sorry to the people of protocol if I have messed up in any way. I’m sorry,” Ruto said.
