‘We let you down for not finding Kimathi’s remains’ – Karua speaks on Mukami’s death

Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua now says that Kenya has let down the late Mama Mukami Kimathi who died on Thursday at the age of 96.

Mukami passed away on Thursday, May 4, 2023, while receiving treatment at a hospital in Nairobi where she had been admitted.

In a statement shared via her official Twitter account, Karua opined that Kenya had let Mukami down by failing to find the remains of her husband Dedan Kimathi.

She subsequently noted that the country’s failure to grant Mukami’s wishes was a great mistake.

“We let you down Mama for not finding Field Marshal Kimathi’s remains in order to accord him a decent send-off during your lifetime. For that we seek your forgiveness #RIPmamaMukamiKimathi,” she wrote.

The Kimathi family had appealed to the government to find their kin’s remains so that they conduct a decent send-off for him.

The appeal came even as previous attempts made by the previous regimes to find his remains went futile.

“The first government came, assured us but nothing came out of it, the second and the third followed suit, we have high hopes that this government will assist us in finding our father’s remains so that we give him a decent send-off,” Kimathi’s daughter Evelyn Wanjugu stated.

Dedan Kimathi was captured by colonial forces at Karunaini village in Nyeri during the struggle for independence.

The veteran freedom fighter was hanged at Kamiti where he was buried in an unmarked grave.
