People’s Liberation Party leader Martha Karua has predicted that President William Ruto will receive fewer votes in the 2027 election than he did in 2022, claiming the entire country has revolted against his administration.

Speaking during an interview on a local media station on Sunday, February 16, 2026, Karua said she has never supported Ruto and does not consider him suitable for the presidency.

“I have never supported the first, so the question of supporting the second does not arise. I have never considered him suitable for the presidency,” she said.

“He has the machinery, he knows he is totally unelectable in this country. He genuinely got some votes; he never won; he stole the election. This time round, he will not even have those votes that he had in 2022. The whole country has revolted against them,” Karua added.

2027 outlook pessimistic

Karua painted a grim picture of the 2027 electoral period, warning that Ruto appears determined to destabilise the country.

“2027, it’s going to be all campaign, but judging from what we are seeing today, it doesn’t look good. It looks like Ruto is determined to burn down the country. Maybe in his book, if there’s no William Ruto, there’s no Kenya,” she stated.

The PLP leader recalled statements she attributed to President Ruto during the 2024 Gen-Z demonstrations.

“And by the way, he said those words one time. During the GEN-Z demonstration, he said if there’s no Kenya for him, there will not be a Kenya for anybody else. That’s a very dangerous way of reasoning,” Karua said.

Karua emphasised that the presidency is a position of service rather than personal entitlement.

“You are one person, you’ve been given the honour of sitting in the highest seat. The country doesn’t belong to you. And that seat is not a title deed, which you can wave in our faces,” she stated.

“Remember always, you’re a servant of the nation, not a master of your own. So if you think we are too much, you can go home and somebody else will take it,” the PLP leader added.
