Kang’ata stands his ground, says he told President nothing but the truth

Senate Majority Whip Irungu Kang’ata has stood his ground, saying he will not withdraw the controversial letter despite the pilling pressure to do so.

The Murang’a Senator said the letter was meant to give an insight on how the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) was being perceived in Central region, but it has been turned into a political weapon against him.

Speaking yesterday at AICPA Church in Gitugi Mathioya Ward in Murang’a County, he said he is being crucified for being candid and telling the President the truth.

He said the move was not meant to show disrespect to the Head of State, but to tell him the reality on the ground. 

“I penned the letter after receiving numerous complaints from residents, who said they do understand BBI contents. That ought to have been an eye opener,” he said. 

“I should not be admonished for telling the truth because telling lies will not help either,” he added.

Kang’ata said he has since faced a lot of criticism from leaders who he said are being untrue to the President Uhuru Kenyatta, who only  want to appease him with sugar-coated lies. 

The Senator said it is time for the leaders face reality and work together to address the issues being raised by the people from this region. 

Most of the people, he said, wanted their issues in the agriculture sector addressed before campaign for referendum is  launched, and they had vowed to oppose the BBI document. 

“Leaders from this region know how the situation on the ground is but the are giving it a blind eye and telling a different narrative, which is more damaging,” Kang’ata said. 

He claims to have since received threats of being removed from his Senate Majority Whip position.
