Raila Odinga’s former chief agent and lawyer Saitabao Ole Kanchory has weighed in on the ongoing criticism over the anger and bitterness witnessed among the youth.

In a statement, Kanchory sarcastically stated that politicians asking why young Kenyans are angry proves that they do not live in the same country as them.

“Politicians are asking why young people are angry. We truly don’t live in the same country with these mutants,” he wrote.

Kanchory’s comments come after a section of politicians raised eyebrows over the bitter atmosphere particularly witnessed in reactions to the death of Dagoretti North MP Beatrice Elachi’s son, Elvis Namenya.

Millie’s take on youth

The latest to pinpoint the hurtful reactions was Suba North Member of Parliament (MP) and Minority Whip at the National Assembly Millie Odhiambo who underscored the urgent need for serious soul searching.

Millie who was speaking during Namenya’s burial ceremony in Narok County on Saturday, March 29, 2025, affirmed that the young Kenyans were deeply consumed by anger and bitterness to the point of mocking Elachi over her son’s death.

“I want to ask that as a country, we need to do some soul searching, we have very angry youth; I don’t know what is going on in this country but we need serious soul searching. When we have lost utu and we do not feel when somebody has lost a loved one.

“It does not matter the reason, or the justification; and perhaps it is time, I don’t know in what format but we need to start talking to each other and stop talking at one another, and stop pointing fingers,” she stated.

Millie also emphasized that the country needs to be united in healing to let go of the bitterness ailing the country.

She particularly addressed her colleagues in the National Assembly stating that it is time to prioritize the issues bedeviling the youth and tackle them to resolve the differences and make the country a better place.

“We need a moment to heal the nation because if we don’t heal the nation, we will be tearing this country, and it is the country for all generations. It is good that the parliament is opening, may we prioritize that we talk about what is bedeviling us as a country, why there are so many bitter and angry people especially young people,” she added.
