Kaluma thanks Ruto for reviving key projects in Homa Bay

By , August 25, 2025

Homa Bay Town Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Kaluma has lauded President William Ruto for spearheading several development projects in the lakeside county.

Taking to his official X account on Monday, August 25, 2025, Kaluma heaped praises on Ruto, saying the projects he has initiated in Homa Bay have brought dignity to long-neglected communities.

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) lawmaker highlighted the reconstruction of the Homa Bay Pier, the establishment of a modern market, the launch of affordable housing units, and the construction of an amphitheatre along the lakeshore as transformative milestones for the region.

The MP noted that while the projects may not match the scale of developments in other parts of the country, they carry immense significance for local residents who have long felt marginalised.

“President ⁦@WilliamsRuto has rebuilt Homa Bay Pier, Modern Market, Affordable Housing, and the amphitheatre by the lakeshore. Although not as big as similar projects done elsewhere, these projects have dignified our long-forgotten people. WE SAY, THANK YOU!” Kaluma wrote on X.

Governor Wanga hails Ruto

Kaluma’s remarks come days after Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga attributed the massive infrastructural development undertaken in the county to the Kenya Kwanza government under President Ruto.

Speaking while delivering her address during the devolution conference on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, Wanga termed the onset of the broad-based government as critical to the rapid development undertaken in the region.

She stated that much has been achieved through the partnership undertaken by the county and the national government, despite the region not having voted for Ruto.

“I want to thank you for your partnership in transforming Homa Bay to make it worthy of hosting this conference. When you last visited Homa Bay in January 2023. Three-quarters of the development seen here was not there. I was an opposition governor, and there was no broad-based government and no partnership. But you had no intention of leaving us behind simply because of how we voted in the election in which you were voted as the president,” she stated.

Ruto’s Homa Bay projects

Among the projects cited by the governor were the dualling of the main highway in Homa Bay Town, the region’s Lake Pier, an infrastructural project meant to revamp the town’s infrastructure and improve access to Lake Victoria’s islands. The project’s construction and rehabilitation started in 2023.

The pier was tipped to be a crucial link for the region and areas such as Kisumu County, Entebbe, and Jinja in Uganda, and Mwanza in Tanzania, among other key trade partners, hence promoting seamless transport and connectivity and deepening regional integration.
