Homa Bay Town Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Kaluma has continued to hail former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s decision to join President William Ruto’s administration, noting that someday young Kenyans will thank him for saving the country.

In his statement shared via his official social media pages on Sunday, May 11, 2025, Kaluma urged the young people to take a step back, introspect and start thanking the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader for what he described as saving the country from political vultures who had infiltrated their revolution movement.

“Soon, very soon, young Kenyans will thank Baba Raila Odinga for saving their motherland Kenya for them. Step back, introspect and begin thanking Baba for saving your country from old political vultures who had infiltrated your good movement to collapse Kenya, just when you should be taking charge.

“You see the vultures in some non-existent “opposition” still shouting “Gen Z!” when their own children are grandparents – they still can’t believe they didn’t capture power by unconstitutional means behind the back of our children!” he wrote.

The latest comes a day after Kaluma clarified ODM’s stance in Ruto’s administration.

The lawmaker who was responding to ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna over his opinion on the party’s role in government, insisted that the Raila-led party was a part of the ruling regime following the formal agreement signed between the two parties.

The vocal lawmaker claimed that Sifuna’s stance runs counter to the facts of a presidential system of government, in which a formal opposition does not exist once a party joins the ruling coalition.

“My brother Edwin Sifuna, who read the Memorandum of Understanding between UDA and ODM, is not aware that ODM is in government! So, where is ODM in this presidential system where there is no Opposition?” Kaluma questioned in a statement on Saturday, May 10, 2025.
