Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma has written to National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula to protest delays by the Committee on Social Protection to publish his Bill opposing the legalisation of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and Intersex (LGBTQI+) associations.

Addressing a news conference yesterday, Kaluma said that the committee chaired by Thika Town MP Alice Ng’ang’a had taken too long to address his Bill since it was forwarded to the team for scrutiny.
In his letter, he appealed to Wetangula to allow the Bill to be published so that it can find its way to the floor of the House.

Said Kaluma: “I have written to the Speaker concerning my bill, the committee on social protection has overstayed with it and in the letter. I have explained to the speaker how the previous speaker handled such matters when they came to him. This includes allowing the bill to be published.”

The bill seeks to prohibit homosexuality, same sex marriage, unnatural sexual acts and related activities as well as seeks to proscribe activities that seek to advance, advocate, promote or fund homosexuality.
It has proscribed various offences ranging from ten years to life imprisonment to individuals who may engage or promote same sex marriages.
