Homa Bay Town Member of Parliament (MP) George Peter Kaluma has criticised leaders opposing development initiatives, terming such resistance as misplaced and counterproductive.

In a post on his X account on Monday, April 6, 2026, Kaluma questioned the rationale behind condemning leaders who lobby for key infrastructure projects for their constituents, saying such efforts are essential for local development.

Referring to the remarks by former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka to Mwingi West MP Charles Nguna, who defended the road construction by the national government in his constituency.

“What a shame! How do you condemn a leader for seeking critical development for his people! No wonder President ⁦@WilliamsRuto⁩ is doing the road to Kalonzo’s home!,” Kaluma said.

Nguna has been facing jostling, pulling, and pushing internal hostilities within the Wiper party since he announced his intention to work and cooperate with Ruto and his administration for his constituency not to be left behind in sharing equitable developments.

The MP’s political fortune began changing back in 2024 when he defied Kalonzo on his directive to stay away from voting for the impeachment of the former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. Nguna has since run into trouble with Kalonzo, the party, and allied members.

MPs’ remarks

Speaking at the Migwani Boys Secondary School in his constituency, Kitui County, on February 20, 2026, when he distributed Ksh67 million in bursaries for 11,434 students in 64 secondary schools in the constituency, the MP said his resolve to work closely with the UDA administration was not negotiable at the moment when the government was fulfilling some of the promises made to his constituency.home!”

He said, although he had not officially defected from the party, he would continue associating himself with the government of the day and give it the support it requires to develop his constituency to write a new chapter in the people’s livelihoods until the general elections are held.

Tarmacking Tseikuru road

The government initiated plans to commence tarmacking of Tseikuru road days after verbal sparring between President William Ruto and Wiper Patriotic Front Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka.

In a notice dated Tuesday, December 23, 2025, the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) invited bids for the rehabilitation of the road.
