Kaluma condemns attack on Osotsi, wishes him quick recovery

Homa Bay Town Member of Parliament Peter Kaluma has come out strongly to denounce the violent attack on Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi in Kisumu, terming it a crime that should not be framed in ethnic or political circles.

In a statement on his X handle on Friday, April 10, 2026, Kaluma condemned the efforts to make the incident about the ethnic identity of Osotsi and, in a stinging political commentary, mentioned Rigathi Gachagua and Kalonzo Musyoka as well.

“Gachagua and Kalonzo are shocked to discover Osotsi is Luo, just as Baba was Luyha! The attack on Osotsi was criminal and will be firmly addressed as such, not a community affair,” Kaluma stated.

Kaluma’s remarks follow the attack on Osotsi in Kisumu, where CCTV footage from the restaurant shows the senator engaged in a confrontation with a group of rowdy individuals who became violent during a tense political situation. The situation escalated, necessitating the intervention of his security team to extricate him from the situation.

The incident left him with injuries that saw him rush to the hospital for treatment before being airlifted to Nairobi and admitted to Karen Hospital for specialised care.

Call for unity

Kaluma denied that the attack was due to ethnic differences, saying that the allegations would only distract from the real issue: criminal violence. He encouraged both leaders and ordinary citizens to shun partisan speech but to promote unity and the rule of law.

In addition to his critique, Kaluma also showed his support for the wounded senator and hoped that he would recover soon.

“Quickest recovery, my brother. Men are born to be strong,” Kaluma added.

Since the attack on Osotsi, there has been a national debate about political tolerance, security, and the increasingly worrying issue of goons being used to destabilise leaders.
