By , August 1, 2025

Former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka has on, Friday, August 1, 2025, confirmed the official name change of his political party from Wiper Democratic Movement to Wiper Patriotic Front (WPF).

Taking to social media platform X, Kalonzo shared a photo holding the certificate of registration.

“It’s official! We are now the Wiper Patriotic Front! #KomboaKenya,” he wrote.

The announcement marks the final step in a rebranding process that was initiated earlier in the year.

The decision to rebrand, according to Kalonzo, is aimed at giving the party a new face that resonates with Kenya’s younger generation. During a recent tour of Ukambani on June 28, he had told supporters in Emali, Makueni County, that the transformation was necessary to align the party with modern political dynamics and patriotic values.

“The party now has a new face, Wiper is going national,” he said at the time. “The new name will be Wiper Patriotic Front (WPF) so that our Gen Z are fully included.”

Gen Zs inspire rebrand

Kalonzo praised the role played by Gen Zs during the 2024 anti-Finance Bill protests, saying their spirit of patriotism inspired the party’s new identity. He urged the youth across the country to register as members of WPF, promising that the party would prioritise their voice in its agenda.

The certificate presented today is a formal recognition of the change and ends the era of the Wiper Democratic Movement, which Kalonzo has led since 2006. The move is seen as part of a broader strategy to consolidate opposition forces and attract a new base ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Meanwhile, the political landscape continues to shift, with the Jubilee Party also making headlines for its internal restructuring. Former President Uhuru Kenyatta retained his position as party leader, while several officials were replaced in a move aimed at reviving the party.

Kalonzo’s bold rebrand positions WPF as a key player in the changing face of Kenyan politics, with a renewed focus on national unity, inclusivity, and youth engagement.
