Kalonzo warns govt Gen Zs will not retreat even in face of death
Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has warned the Kenya Kwanza government that it is gravely mistaken if it believes the youth-led Gen Z movement can be subdued through violence or death.
Speaking during the first day of their Western Kenya tour on Thursday, July 3, 2025, Kalonzo insisted that the protests and activism led by young people are unstoppable despite the brutal tactics employed by the state.
Kalonzo criticised the administration for hiring goons who collaborate with police officers to harass and even kill protesting youths, describing this approach as reckless and deeply misguided.
He stressed that such attempts at suppression will not deter a generation that he described as highly intelligent and determined.
“You have never seen a government hiring goons — I mean goons collaborating with police to hunt down and kill Gen Z. Gen Zs cannot be stopped. This generation cannot be silenced by anyone. These young people are extremely intelligent,” Kalonzo declared.
He further clarified that while the opposition respects the movement’s independence and does not interfere with its course, their primary responsibility is to ensure the safety of these youths and shield them from state violence.
“That is why we said we cannot interfere with what they are doing. Our duty is to make sure they are not killed by Ruto’s government,” he added firmly.

Kalonzo did not mince words in condemning the government’s brutality, comparing the killings of young people to the slaughter of wild animals and lamenting the callous disregard for human life.
“This government is killing our youth like antelopes,” he lamented.
Reaffirming his commitment to safeguarding democracy, Kalonzo declared that the opposition’s mission is to rescue Kenya from authoritarian tendencies and uphold its democratic principles.
“We in the opposition are here to rescue Kenya. Kenya will remain — even until Jesus returns — and forever, Kenya will remain a multiparty democracy,” he concluded.
Jibe at Mudavadi
In the same address, the Wiper leader launched a stern and emotionally charged rebuke against Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, accusing him of handing over the Amani National Congress (ANC) to President William Ruto in pursuit of personal political gain.
Kalonzo did not hold back as he expressed disillusionment with the current state of politics, saying that he has witnessed many of his contemporaries fall by the wayside after giving in to pressure and political offers from the ruling administration.
He recounted how he began the opposition struggle with several others, only for most of them — including Mudavadi — to fall out along the way.
“The time has come for the people here to rise up. I truly tried. How many of you have ever heard that Kalonzo changed his position? We began this opposition journey with many people, including Mudavadi. Now look, Mudavadi is completely stuck, and he has even handed over his entire political party to Ruto,” Kalonzo said.
