Kalonzo: Tuju told me he got the property title
By Kenneth Mwenda, March 22, 2026Former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka has raised an alarm over the claimed abduction of veteran politician Raphael Tuju, who already has a property dispute.
Speaking at a church service in Kiharu on Sunday, March 22, 2026, Kalonzo said Tuju had informed him of irregularities regarding his commercial property in Karen, Nairobi.
“Tukiwa hapa, Mweshimiwa Raphael Tuju ametekwa nyara. And if Tuju is not produced today, and tomorrow is Monday, na hawe charged with whatever offence – I suspect there’s none,” Kalonzo said.
He added that Tuju had informed him about issues surrounding a property title.
“Tuju came and told me two days ago that he got that title of that property. He got that title cancelled because everything that happened was irregular,” he explained.
Orengo raises Tuju alarm
Kalonzo’s remarks follow claims by Siaya Governor James Orengo, who said Tuju had been kidnapped under unclear circumstances. Orengo reported that Tuju’s vehicle was found abandoned with the keys still inside and called on Kenyans to pray for his safety.
“Nataka niwajulishe, ndugu yetu Tuju ametekwa nyara. Gari yake imeachwa mahali, na vifunguo vya gari ziko pale pale. Tumuombee Tuju kwa sababu amepitia matatizo mengi sana,” Orengo said during the church event.
Tensions escalated earlier this month when over 50 police officers, reportedly from the Rapid Response Unit, arrived at a property in Karen. The officers sealed the compound, removed Tuju and several others, and locked the gates.
The dispute involves a Ksh943.9 million loan from the East African Development Bank, which Tuju took to acquire and develop commercial units for sale. The loan went into default and, with interest and other costs, now totals about Ksh2.2 billion.
Several leaders have condemned the use of police in the matter. Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o questioned the conduct of authorities, saying the events raised “serious questions about the conduct of institutions entrusted with upholding the rule of law in our country.”
