Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has trashed the 2024/2025 budget estimates that was read by Treasury Cabinet Secretary Njuguna Ndung'u on Thursday, June 13, 2024.

Kalonzo through a post made via his official X account on Friday, June 14, 2024, moments after the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya presser says the budget estimates have varying figures.

Varying figures

Kalonzo who has termed the Finance Bill 2024 as a reckless race to the bottom says the figures quoted by CS Ndung'u, Treasury Principal Secretary Chris Kiptoo and the National Assembly Budget and Appropriations Committee Chairperson Ndindi Nyoro do not match.

The Azimio co-principal further termed the inconsistencies as a continuation of Kenya Kwanza's culture of duplicity and lies.

"The Budget Estimates 2024/2025 and The Finance Bill, 2024 is a reckless race to the bottom. From the CS, PS to the Chair of the House Budget Committee and the printed Budget Books, All have varying figures. Who or what should Kenyans believe? This is a continuation of KK's culture of duplicity and lies to the point where they have forgotten what lie they told Kenyans," Kalonzo said.

Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition in its Friday presser told its Members of Parliament (MPs) to vote against the Finance Bill 2024 once it is tabled in the National Assembly next week.

Finance Bill rejection

Kalonzo who led the presser said Opposition lawmakers are expected to reject President William Ruto’s tax proposals in totality.

“We reaffirm our stand that all well-meaning Kenyans must oppose the Finance Bill, 2024, and have thus instructed all our parliamentary members to lead from the front in rejecting this punitive Bill in its totality,” he said.

He further saluted Kenyans who have used phone calls, text messages and social media initiatives to urge their MPs to vote against the bill.

The Finance Bill 2024, aims to expand the tax base and increase revenue collection from Kenyan citizens through a raft of new tax measures.

Kalonzo warned that the majority of the tax measures in the Finance Bill 2024 are punitive with substantial consequences for Kenyans.
