Kalonzo lauds lawyers for using culture to unite GEMA communities
By Kiprono Keileb, November 2, 2025Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has praised members of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) from the Gikuyu, Embu, Meru, and Akamba communities for using culture as a tool to promote unity and national dialogue.
Speaking after attending the Ngemi Cia Watho cultural gala held at Thika Greens Golf Club on Saturday, November 1, 2025, Kalonzo described the event as a powerful reminder that Kenya’s diversity is a source of strength and not division.
“It was a pleasure joining Ngemi Cia Watho yesterday evening at the Thika Greens Golf Club, alongside Second Deputy President of Kenya Rigathi Gachagua and Speaker Emeritus Justin B Muturi,” he said.
The former Vice President said the gathering represented more than just a cultural celebration, adding that it reflected the spirit of Article 11 of the Constitution, which recognises culture as the foundation of the nation’s identity.
“The colourful event was a living actualisation by members of the Law Society of Kenya from the Gikuyu, Embu, Meru and Akamba communities of Article 11 of our Constitution of Kenya, 2010,” Kalonzo stated.
He further noted that embracing cultural values as a form of dialogue helps strengthen national unity and understanding. “Recognising and celebrating culture as the bedrock of our nation and the cumulative civilisation of the Kenyan people should be encouraged as a way of dialogue and a means of showcasing Kenya’s cultural wealth,” he added.
The event, attended by prominent leaders and legal professionals, brought together different communities to celebrate shared values, art, and tradition. Kalonzo was accompanied by Kitui County Woman Representative Irene Kasalu, Matungulu MP Stephen Mule, Embakasi South MP Julius Mawathe, and lawyers Ndegwa Njiru and Eunice Lumallas.
The Ngemi Cia Watho gala has become a unique platform for professionals to promote peace and understanding through culture and dialogue. For many who attended, the event demonstrated how Kenya’s legal minds can lead not only in the courtroom but also in fostering social cohesion.
Kalonzo’s presence alongside Gachagua and Muturi also reflected a rare moment of unity across political lines, a gesture that underscored the evening’s theme of togetherness and national harmony.
