Huldah Momanyi’s rise

Born in Nyamemiso village, Nyamira, Kenya, Huldah Momanyi moved with her family to the U.S. as a child. Her trajectory has not always been smooth: her family faced immigration challenges, including a near deportation episode later resolved through political advocacy.

Despite those hurdles, Momanyi forged a path in public service and advocacy, particularly focused on girls’ education and community empowerment. Her election in 2024, under Minnesota’s Democratic-Farmer-Labor (DFL) party, catapulted her to national attention in both the U.S. and Kenya.
