Wiper party leader and former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka has been honoured with an Icon of Democracy Award 2021 for his crucial role in steering peace talks as Kenya’s special envoy to South Sudan.

The African Magazine published in the Netherlands came up with The Voice Achievers Award dedicated to appreciating contributions from sons, daughters, and friends of Africa who through their activities and influence have impacted positively on the lives of Africans.

“Your Excellencies, Ladies and Gentlemen, I accept The Voice Newsmagazine Prize at a moment in Africa where peace and nation-building is central to our immediate cause of well-being. I am mindful of the immense risks and dangers of dissatisfaction on the road to freedom. As I humbly receive this award, I ask each and every one of you to remember President Salva Kirr and Dr Riek Machar,” Kalonzo tweeted on Sunday, September 19.

One of the biggest African social events in Central Europe, The Voice Achievers Award recognises and celebrate leaders, best performers and achievers; identifying and stimulating distinctive innovations in the United Arab Emirates towards Africa; encouraging sustainable growth with business profitability, and providing added value by sharing progress and best practices in the development of Africa.

“While serving in the government, he has had to spend more than a decade out of Kenya, holding talks, deliberations and negotiations to help keep peace in those countries. His Excellency Dr Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka understood how important keeping peace in countries surrounding his beloved Kenya was, not only for the prosperity and peace of Kenya but the whole of Africa.” the publication said.

Kalonzo thanked the Voice newsmagazine for singling him out for the particular recognition adding, “South Sudan and its people are close to my heart. You need only ask and I pledge always to be there for you. God Bless South Sudan. God Bless East Africa. God Bless Africa. God bless the great Republic of Kenya.”

The award started in 2012 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands and has recognized over 250 recipients, including African businesses, individuals, corporate organizations, governmental institutions and ordinary citizens contributing to the advancement of humanity in Africa.
