Former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka has congratulated Senior Counsel Charles Kanjama on his election as the 52nd President of the Law Society of Kenya for the 2026–2028 term.

In an X post on Thursday, February 19, 2026, Kalonzo described the win as a well-earned mandate grounded in principled service, integrity, and commitment to the rule of law.

He highlighted Kanjama’s RIPE agenda, Rule of Law, Integrity, Practice and Welfare, and Engagement, noting initiatives such as publishing an annual Rule of Law Report, completing the Wakili Towers project transparently, establishing a Training Institute, and strengthening welfare and mentorship for young advocates.

“I warmly congratulate Senior Counsel Charles Kanjama @ckanjama on his election as the 52nd President of the Law Society of Kenya for the 2026 to 2028 term. This is a well earned mandate, grounded in years of principled service, integrity and steadfast commitment to the rule of law.”

“A strong bar is the guardian of a strong Constitution,” he said, adding that leadership anchored in values is essential as the country approaches the 2027 General Election.

Kalonzo also commended outgoing President Faith Odhiambo for her stewardship, particularly her defence of constitutional rights during the 2024 Gen Z protests and insistence on accountability, which restored the moral authority of the LSK presidency.

“I also commend the outgoing President, @FaithOdhiambo8 , for her courageous stewardship. Her firm defence of constitutional rights during the 2024 Gen Z protests and her insistence on accountability restored the moral authority of the LSK presidency. She leaves office with honour.”

He acknowledged the Young Bar, noting their vigilance and commitment to the Constitution of Kenya 2010 as a steady reminder that the defence of liberty belongs to every generation.

Election results and unity

Senior Counsel Charles Kanjama secured 3,728 votes in the elections supervised by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, defeating his closest rival Peter Wanyama, who garnered 2,616 votes, while current LSK Vice President Mwaura Kabata came third with 2,086 votes.

Advocates from across the country participated in the poll. Kanjama will take over from Odhiambo, with transition arrangements already underway ahead of a formal handover.

Speaking after the results, Kanjama described his election as both an honour and a responsibility.

“I’m glad to benefit from the work of the Law Society of Kenya… It’s a responsibility to hold to those high pledges and commitments I made to the statutory role of the Law Society of Kenya, not to disappoint Kenyans, not to disappoint lawyers, my supporters and indeed all advocates both those who voted and those who didn’t,” he said.
