Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has demanded the immediate and unconditional release of former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju, alleging he was forcibly abducted alongside his driver in Nairobi.

In a strongly worded statement, Musyoka said the two were taken on Saturday evening, with their vehicle later found abandoned in the Karen area.

“This is unlawful, unconstitutional, and a direct affront to the dignity of every Kenyan citizen,” he said.

“Make no mistake: the United Alternative Government and every Kenyan of goodwill condemns this criminal act in the strongest possible terms. CS Raphael Tuju and his driver must be produced alive and returned to their families, UNHARMED.”

However, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has said it has launched investigations into Tuju’s disappearance following a missing person report lodged at Karen Police Station.

According to the agency, Tuju was reported missing by his family on March 22, 2026, and his motor vehicle was later discovered abandoned along Miotoni Lane in Karen with its hazard lights on. A security guard alerted authorities, prompting a response by officers, after which the scene was processed by crime scene investigators and the vehicle towed for forensic examination.

“Efforts to reach Hon. Tuju have so far been unsuccessful, as his mobile phone remains switched off,” the DCI said, adding that a specialized team has been deployed to establish his whereabouts and determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The agency further revealed that attempts by investigators to access Tuju’s residence along Mwitu Drive were denied by family members, and called for full cooperation to aid investigations.

“We urge full cooperation from all parties, including unrestricted access to relevant locations and prompt provision of information, for a swift and thorough resolution,” the DCI said.

Authorities have also appealed to members of the public with any information regarding Tuju’s whereabouts, his vehicle, or any suspicious activity in the Miotoni Lane or greater Karen area before, on, or after March 21, to come forward.

The case has sparked widespread concern across political and legal circles, with leaders raising alarm over the circumstances of his disappearance. Tuju, a former Jubilee Party Secretary-General and veteran politician, has in recent years been involved in high-profile legal disputes over property in Nairobi.

Investigations remain ongoing, even as pressure mounts on authorities to locate him and ensure his safe return.
